The elder tree's flower is known as an elderflower. The flower's extract is used to create medication.

There is not enough credible scientific evidence to support the use of elderflower for treating the common cold, influenza, swelling of the sinuses and nasal cavity (rhinosinusitis), or any of the other conditions for which it is traditionally used.

Elderflower is used as a flavoring in both food and drink.

Elderflower extracts are used in the production of perfumes.
